The purple house on the corner of 43rd and Howard Avenue has been a very recognizable property for many years. Now everyone wants to know what is going to happen to it. The property was purchased as a foreclosure by G&S Quality Construction and upon inspection by the city of Milwaukee, it has been ordered condemned. A full report is still pending from the inspector's office but some of the issues included structural damage, water damage, rodent infestation, and mold.
Because the current structure has been deemed unsafe for human habitation, it will be deconstructed. This is an environmentally friendly way of removing the current structure. Instead of being bull dozed and sent to a landfill, the house will be taken apart piece by piece. Anything that can be saved will be donated to Habitat for Humanity or The Community Warehouse. Anything that can't be donated will be recycled. This method of removal will allow approximately 90% of the structure to remain out of our landfills. Deconstruction will begin as soon as all the proper permits have been issued.
Once the existing structure has been deconstructed, excavation will begin on what will be two new energy efficient townhouses. Not everything has been finalized and there have been many people asking about potential design elements that could be included to pay tribute to the "Purple House". We would like to hear your suggestions, please let us know what you think by sending us an email.
For the new construction G&S Quality Construction will be using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) and Structured Insulated Panels (SIPs). These new building technologies will offer homeowners better energy efficiency by a margin of 40% to 60% over conventional building methods.
